The coolest thing I’ve ever done? Well, my definition of cool is when you aren’t afraid to outwardly show how much you love something. This is why I drove eight hours to watch a video game tournament. It was the North American finals and until that morning I wasn’t even sure I was going to go. I sat in my car with my breakfast in hand and just simply decided that I was going to do it. I didn’t have the money. I didn’t have the energy. I certainly didn’t know where I was going to stay, but I did know that it was an event that I didn’t want to miss. On the way I made plans with a friend to stay at his house, phoned my parents for some money, and googled directions on my phone. The drive took forever, but it was more than worth it. Just being around people who shared the same passion that I did for competitive video games was a once in a lifetime experience. It was fantastic cheering in a crowd and everyone knowing exactly what was going on in the game. I’ve tried to get my friends to watch some games with me, but they simply didn’t get it. The crowd though, they got it.
